6-Chloro-2-iodopurine is a drug that binds to the soluble guanylate cyclase, an enzyme that produces cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). It is used to treat chronic pain. 6CI has been shown to have anti-cancer properties due to its ability to inhibit adenosine receptors, which are involved in tumor development. 6CI also inhibits inflammatory responses by blocking the inflammatory response and inhibiting the production of prostaglandins. The synthesis of 6CI involves nucleophilic substitution reactions on 2-iodopurine with iodoacetic acid followed by cross-coupling reactions with chloride.
