8-Chloroguanine is a carcinogen that has been shown to cause cancer in laboratory animals. It is a reactive compound with a hydroxyl group and a hydrogen bond that can react with DNA, leading to the formation of 8-chloroadenine (8-CAD) and 8-chloroguanine (8-CG). These compounds are then converted into hypochlorous acid, which has been shown to be an inflammatory agent.
