It is a colorless liquid with a sweet odor and chemical formula CHClFCHOMe. 1-Chloro-1,2,2-trifluoro-2-methoxyethane has been shown to be a good solvent for reactions involving polar molecules such as water or alcohols. The catalytic activity of this compound can be increased by adding trifluoromethyl reagents such as isopropyl trifluoromethyl sulfide or trimethylsilyl trifluoromethyl sulfide.
