4'-Chloro-5-fluoro-2-hydroxybenzophenone is a fluorescent dye that has been used in the diagnosis of nicotinic acid deficiency. It induces an increase in the activity of the enzyme phenobarbital hydroxylase and a decrease in the activity of pyridine-3-carboxylic acid oxidase. The spectral properties of this compound are similar to those of 4-aminohexenoic acid, which is involved in the synthesis of nicotinic acid. The discriminant analysis showed that this compound had a high correlation coefficient with nicotinic acid and a low correlation coefficient with pyridine-3-carboxylic acid.
