The optimal reaction temperature for this reaction is 100°C. The reaction can be catalyzed by copper and nickel at a temperature of 50°C to 60°C. This chemical reacts with water to form hydrochloric acid, hydrogen gas, and 2-fluoroethanol. The catalyst system consists of copper and nickel. The reaction time varies depending on the concentration of reactants. This chemical is often used in combination with a cocatalyst such as diazo or acetone cyanohydrin.
