(4-Chloro-3-fluorophenyl)boronic acid is a boron compound that is used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It is prepared by diazotization of 5-bromo-2-chloroaniline with sodium nitrite and hydrochloric acid, followed by treatment with trimethyl borate. This process gives the desired product in high yield. The phenylboronic acid can be converted to an organoborane using Grignard reagents and then coupled with a variety of electrophiles, including polychlorinated substrates and heterocycles, such as benzene. In liquid crystal systems, (4-chloro-3-fluorophenyl)boronic acid acts as a monomer that can be polymerized to yield polymers or copolymers.
