N-[4-(2-Chloroacetyl)phenyl]methanesulfonamide is a chiral compound that is used as an ethylene inhibitor and anti-cholesterol agent. It is also an antiarrhythmic drug, which slows the heart rate. N-[4-(2-Chloroacetyl)phenyl]methanesulfonamide inhibits the production of lipase, which breaks down fats in the body, and can be used to treat patients with high cholesterol levels. This compound has been shown to inhibit the activity of dehydrogenase and epoxide hydrolase, enzymes involved in metabolism of endogenous compounds such as epoxides. N-[4-(2-Chloroacetyl)phenyl]methanesulfonamide was originally synthesized by reacting chloroacetic acid with 4-(2-chlorocarbonyl)aniline under kinetic conditions.
