4-Chloro-1-isocyanato-2-methylbenzene is a chlorinated pesticide that is used to treat wastewater. It is selective for the removal of pesticides, and is sensitive to contaminants such as ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. 4-Chloro-1-isocyanato-2-methylbenzene has been shown to be effective in removing a variety of contaminants from water and soil samples with high selectivity. This compound also can be used to analyze the presence of chlorinated compounds in wastewater by gas chromatography. The 2D technique separates the components of an unknown mixture on the basis of their chemical properties, which allows for better identification.
