3-(Chloromethyl)-2-methylpyridine hydrochloride is an organic compound with a potent activity against tumor cells. It has been shown to inhibit the transcriptional transrepression of the gene encoding matrix metalloproteinase-13 (MMP-13) in prostate cancer cells by binding to the ligand binding domain of nuclear factor kappa B (NFκB). 3-(Chloromethyl)-2-methylpyridine hydrochloride also inhibits the expression of MMP-13 and other proteins that are involved in tumor cell invasion and metastasis. This drug has been shown to be a lead compound for the development of anti-tumor agents.
