5-[(4-Chlorobenzyl)thio]-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-amine (CTA) is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits the growth of commensal bacteria by binding to the dna binding domains on the cell surface. CTA has been shown to have a potent effect on mammalian cells. This compound also interacts with antibiotics such as metronidazole and erythromycin, and can be used as a prodrug for these agents. CTA is currently being investigated as a potential drug target for inhibiting bacterial virulence factors.
