1-Chloromethanesulfonamide is a biocide with a broad spectrum of activity. It is an organic solvent that can be used as a diphenyl ether, nucleophile and acid. The effective dose for 1-chloromethanesulfonamide is about 0.1 g/m3. This chemical has been shown to have anti-cancer properties in experimental models and has been studied for its potential to modulate the immune system. 1-Chloromethanesulfonamide has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells by reacting with fatty acids in the cell membrane and inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. It also reacts with nucleophilic groups on DNA, preventing DNA replication and transcription, leading to cell death. The structural formula for 1-chloromethanesulfonamide is HClCH2SO2NH2.
