2-Cholro-5-nitrothiazole is an effervescent pharmaceutical preparation with antifungal, antiprotozoal, and antibacterial properties. It has been used to treat vaginal infections caused by Trichomonas vaginalis. 2-Cholro-5-nitrothiazole is an active form of the drug thiocarbamate, which inhibits the synthesis of fatty acids in microorganisms. This drug also inhibits the growth of bacteria that are resistant to nitrothiazole and formamide, such as methylacetamido and metal ion. The coordination chemistry of this compound is oleaginous and fatty acid.
