2-Chloroquinazolin-4(3H)-one is a byproduct of the synthesis of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) that has been shown to have antimalarial activity. It also has binding constants in human serum that are predictably higher than those for chloroquine. The drug repositioning study showed that it has a longer half-life and similar binding constants in vitro assays to chloroquine and mefloquine. The drug showed good therapeutic efficacy against malaria in vivo assays. 2-Chloroquinazolin-4(3H)-one is an enantiomer of quinazoline and its optical isomers have different biological properties.
