5-Chlorothiazol-2-amine hydrochloride is a potent inhibitor of mitochondrial complex I, which is an enzyme that transfers electrons from NADH to ubiquinone. It has been shown to inhibit electron transport and reduce the production of ATP in mitochondria. 5-Chlorothiazol-2-amine hydrochloride also prevents the oxidation of benzoquinone (BQ) in the respiratory chain, leading to reduced membrane permeability and inhibition of reductase activity.
5-Chlorothiazol-2-amine hydrochloride has been shown to have a toxic effect on cells by inhibiting cellular respiration and increasing mitochondrial membrane permeability.
