3-Chloro-4-methylpyridazine is an oxychloride byproduct that has been found to have antiviral activity. It is a research chemical and industrial chemical that has been used in the preparation of 3-chloro-4-methylpyridine, which is used in the production of phosphorus oxychloride. 3-Chloro-4-methylpyridazine can be obtained by reacting with hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide solution with phosphorus oxychloride. This process yields a mixture of 3-chloro-4-methylpyridine and 4,5,6,7,8,9,10 (octahydro) pyrimido[1,2:3,-a]azepin. The product yield from this reaction can be improved by adding sodium bicarbonate and palladium.
