7-Chloro-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-(2-methyl-4-nitrobenzoyl)-5H-1-benzazepin-5-one is a synthetic intermediate that is used in the synthesis of tolvaptan. It is a white solid that can be synthesized from 7-chloroquinoline and 2-(methylsulfonyl)benzoic acid by acylation with oxalyl chloride. The crude product can be purified by recrystallization or column chromatography. 7C7TBT has a molecular weight of 313.85 g/mol and an empirical formula of C14H11ClN2O3S. It is soluble in chloroform and ethanol but insoluble in water.
