2-Chlorobenzene-1,4-dioicacid is an organic compound that belongs to the class of diols. It is a colorless liquid that has been shown to be a good hydrogen bond donor in organic solvents and as a linker between functional groups. The chemical structure consists of two benzene rings joined by a single oxygen atom with four hydroxyl groups. 2-Chlorobenzene-1,4-dioicacid can be used as an intermediate for the production of other chemicals. This product can be made by reacting xylene with hydrogen chloride in the presence of an acid catalyst such as phosphotungstic acid or thermally in the presence of oxidation products such as hydrogen peroxide or ozone.
