Ethyl chloro(ethoxy)acetate is a cycloaddition product of ethyl chloroacetate and an aldehyde or ketone. It can be synthesized by the Wittig reaction, which involves the reaction of an alkyl phosphonium salt with an aldehyde or ketone. Ethyl chloro(ethoxy)acetate undergoes thermolysis to form a dipole and imine, which then reacts with hydroxylamine to generate phosphonium ylide. The ylide then reacts with another molecule of ethyl chloro(ethoxy)acetate to form the desired cycloadduct. This chemical has been shown to have potential as a research tool in organic synthesis.
