2-(Chloromethyl)allyl-trimethylsilane is a molecule with a chloromethyl group and an allyl group. It is soluble in most organic solvents, but insoluble in water. 2-(Chloromethyl)allyl-trimethylsilane reacts with chloride to form the corresponding allyl chloride, which can be used as a bifunctional reagent. This molecule is also used as a synthetic intermediate and has been shown to be biologically active. 2-(Chloromethyl)allyl-trimethylsilane has been shown to react with piperidine to form the corresponding allylpiperidine, which has been found to be a useful synthetic intermediate for preparing other molecules.
