Cascaroside B is a natural product that belongs to the class of anthrones. It has been used in traditional herbal medicines for centuries. Cascaroside B is found in the bark and leaves of plants from the Rhamnaceae family. The compound can be extracted from these plants by boiling with water, filtering, and evaporating the solution to dryness. Cascaroside B has been shown to induce apoptosis through activation of caspase-3, -8, -9 and PARP cleavage pathways in various cell types. This compound also inhibits chloride ion influx into cells by blocking K+ channels.
