This additive can be evaporated to form a uniform layer on the surface of the donor material, which improves light absorption and morphology. 2-((4-Chlorophenyl)methylene)indane-1,3-dione has been shown to be volatile and is therefore suitable for use in solar cells that require a high degree of flexibility, such as polymer solar cells.
