Descripción

Cuprous iodide is a redox reagent that is used in organic synthesis to produce organocuprates. It can be synthesized by reacting n-dimethyl formamide with copper metal. Cuprous iodide has a high thermal expansion, which makes it useful for the production of low density foams. The redox potential and nitrogen atoms of cuprous iodide make it an excellent candidate for use as a transport medium in the detection of volatile compounds. Cuprous iodide has been shown to inhibit the growth of carcinoma cells and is also effective against bacterial infections. This compound can be used as an antimicrobial agent because it binds to copper ions and exhibits antibacterial activity.
