Descripción

Candoxatril is a prodrug of candoxatrilat, which inhibits the enzyme adenylyl cyclase. Candoxatrilat is a natriuretic peptide that increases renal blood flow and glomerular filtration rate. It also reduces levels of atrial and brain natriuretic peptides, which are associated with high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. Candoxatril has been shown to reduce cardiac and kidney fibrosis by inhibiting collagen production in these tissues. Candoxatril is an oral prodrug that must be absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract before it can be converted to its active form.
