Descripción

Carbazeran is a novel pharmacological agent that is being developed for the treatment of bowel disease. It inhibits the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) and has been shown to have beneficial effects in vitro on human cells and in vivo models of heart failure. DPP-4 is responsible for breaking down the hormone glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), which has been shown to have beneficial effects on inflammatory bowel disease. Carbazeran binds to DPP-4, thereby inhibiting its activity, and prevents the breakdown of GLP-1. This leads to an increase in GLP-1 levels and an improvement in inflammatory bowel disease symptoms.
