Chlorhexidine is a disinfectant that has been shown to be safe and effective for use in a wide variety of settings. It is used as an antimicrobial agent in the medical, dental, and veterinary fields, as well as in food processing, water purification, and textile manufacturing. Chlorhexidine has been found to inhibit the growth of bacteria by disrupting the cell membrane or by inhibiting bacterial DNA synthesis. Chlorhexidine dihydrochloride has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties.
