2-Chloro-4,6-dimethoxyaniline is a benzonitrile derivative that is used as an intermediate in the production of other chemicals. 2-Chloro-4,6-dimethoxyaniline has a number of uses including extraction, formylation, and metallation. It is also used to produce the antihistamine mepyramine. 2-Chloro-4,6-dimethoxyaniline can be extracted from coal tar or petroleum distillates. The chloride ion in 2-chloro-4,6-dimethoxyaniline reacts with hydrogen chloride to form chloromethyl chloroformate. This compound undergoes a number of reactions including formylation and metallation to produce different compounds.
