6-Chloro-5-(2-chloroethyl)oxindole is an impurity of pyrazoles, which are used in the synthesis of serotonin. The purity of 6-chloro-5-(2-chloroethyl)oxindole can be determined by chromatographic techniques. It is also known to react with sodium sulfide and chloride to form oxindole. This reaction can be carried out using organic solvents in a supercritical state. 6-Chloro-5-(2-chloroethyl)oxindole is soluble in water and has a molecular weight of 189.6 g/mol. It has been shown that 6-chloro-5-(2-chloroethyl)oxindole is a competitive inhibitor of platelet aggregation, with a Ki value of 4 μM. It also inhibits the binding of serotonin to its receptor and may have antiplatelet activity as well as other activities such as antithrombotic
