Conduritol B tetraacetate is a synthetic compound that has been shown to be active against metabolic disorders. This compound is a chiral molecule that has two enantiomers, which have different pharmacokinetic properties. Conduritol B tetraacetate inhibits the synthesis of glucose in the liver and reduces blood glucose levels. It also has anti-inflammatory effects and can regulate lipid metabolism. Conduritol B tetraacetate is synthesised from conduritol A by acetylation at C4 and C8 positions with acetic anhydride. The kinetic properties of this compound are similar to those of other inhibitors of carbohydrate metabolism such as phenformin, metformin, and troglitazone.
