Descripción

Cyhalothrin is a pyrethroid insecticide which is used for agricultural and household purposes. It has been shown to have toxic effects on the liver, as well as acute toxicities and an ecotoxicological effect. Cyhalothrin inhibits the enzyme activity of cytochrome P450 in vitro, which leads to an increase in antioxidant vitamins. Cyhalothrin also causes an increase in ryanodine receptor activity in vitro, leading to calcium release and cell death. The molecule has two bicyclic heterocycles that are responsible for its toxicity. Cyhalothrin can be synthesized by reacting sodium citrate with lambda-cypermethrin or by converting lambda-cypermethrin into a keto-enol tautomer intermediate.
