Descripción:Cholest-5-en-3-b-yl octadecanoate is a lipophilic fatty acid ester that is used as an absorption enhancer in pharmaceutical preparations. The compound has been shown to increase the solubility of poorly water soluble drugs and promote their absorption through the skin. It has also been shown to be effective in reducing subcutaneous tumour growth when applied topically to human skin as a lipid film, which may be due to its ability to activate lipolytic enzymes and stimulate fat uptake by cells. Cholest-5-en-3-b-yl octadecanoate is chemically similar to sulfanilamide, which inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting the synthesis of folic acid.
