It is a colorless liquid that is soluble in water and polar organic solvents. 5-Chlorovaleryl chloride has been shown to inhibit the proteolytic activity of serine proteases, including thrombin and trypsin. It also has demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties by inhibition of the activation of the 5-ht7 receptor. The synthesis of 5-chlorovaleryl chloride was achieved through an asymmetric synthesis using hydrochloric acid as a catalyst. This reaction proceeds via aziridine as a key intermediate and involves an acylation reaction between chloroacetyl chloride and valeric acid in low energy conditions, which leads to this product.
