It has been shown to be reactive with many substances such as amines, chlorination, toluene, anthracene, anthraquinone and hydrochloric acid. 2-Chloro-3,5-dimethylphenol is also reactive with aluminium and chlorides. It can introduce chlorine into organic molecules like vanadyl or hydrogen chloride.
