Conjugated linoleic acid is a conjugated fatty acid, consisting of a linoleic acid molecule with two or three double bonds. It has been shown to have inhibitory properties against pathogens such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica. Conjugated linoleic acid also has anti-inflammatory effects on bowel disease and the energy metabolism in adipose tissue. It is thought that the action of conjugated linoleic acid on these processes is due to its ability to bind to enzymes involved in metabolic pathways.
