It is taken up by cells through a process involving an active transport mechanism. N-Cbz-L-homoserine lactone has been shown to have hepatotoxic effects and may inhibit uptake of other compounds, such as glucose, into cells. This drug also has been shown to be effective against bladder cancer cells, although it does not affect cancerous cells in other organs.
