4-Chloro-6-methoxypyrimidine is a dihedral molecule with a hydrochloric acid group. It is an activated form of the drug that has been shown to be effective against cancer cells in vitro. 4-Chloro-6-methoxypyrimidine can act as a prodrug, converting to its active form by reaction with hydrochloric acid in the stomach and intestines. This drug is also used for the treatment of multidrug resistant bacterial infections, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). 4-Chloro-6-methoxypyrimidine has been shown to bind to DNA and RNA, inhibiting cellular growth and replication. The stability of this drug has been demonstrated using stable complexes formed with halides such as chloride or chlorinating agents.
