• Descripción: Cetyltrimethylammonium chloride is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits the synthesis of bacterial cell wall components. It has been shown to be effective against Gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE). Cetyltrimethylammonium chloride disrupts the membrane potential of mitochondria in bacteria, leading to cell lysis. The effectiveness of cetyltrimethylammonium chloride has been tested by surface methodology and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy on human serum samples. This study found that cetyltrimethylammonium chloride was more effective than benzalkonium chloride, a chemical commonly used as a preservative in cosmetics.
