1-Cyclopentylethanol is an organic solvent that is used in the production of pharmaceutical formulations, as well as for other industrial purposes. It is a colorless liquid with a boiling point of about 113 °C. 1-Cyclopentylethanol can be synthesized by reacting benzene and cyclopentyl bromide in the presence of hypophosphite ion, sulfonic acid, and aliphatic hydrocarbon. 1-Cyclopentylethanol can be used to produce a variety of products, such as alkene and c1-4 alkyl. The reaction products are primarily hydroxyl group and carbamic acid.
