4-Chloro-2-fluoronitrobenzene is a phthalic acid derivative that can be used as a starting material for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. It is also a component of perfumes, pesticides, and dyes. The compound reacts with dimethylformamide and xylene to give 4-chloro-2-fluoroaniline, which can be aminated with ammonium chloride to give 4-chloro-2-fluoronitrobenzene. This compound can then be acetylated or chlorinated to produce other derivatives. 4-Chloro-2-fluoronitrobenzene has been shown to have low solubility in polar solvents such as water and methanol but high solubility in nonpolar solvents such as dichloromethane or mesitylene.
