1-Cyclopentylpiperazine is an organic compound that belongs to the group of piperazines. It is a white crystalline solid with a molecular weight of 113.01 g/mol and a melting point of 173 °C. Cyclopentylpiperazine has shown activity as an inhibitor of histamine release, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of histamine in cells. The molecule also possesses an oxygen atom and can form hydrogen bonds with water molecules, which may account for its high boiling point. 1-Cyclopentylpiperazine is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes and has been shown to be effective against hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections in vitro through inhibition of serine protease activity, which is necessary for the replication cycle of HCV.
