3-Chloropropylamine HCl is a hydrochloric acid salt of the amine 3-chloropropylamine. It has been shown to induce apoptosis in human colon cancer cells, and it has been proposed that this effect may be due to inhibition of protein synthesis by blocking the translation of mRNA into proteins. 3-Chloropropylamine HCl is used as an anti-inflammatory agent in bowel disease. It is also used as a diagnostic tool in the study of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and HIV infection, where it can be used to identify activated macrophages present in lesions. 3-Chloropropylamine HCl has also been shown to have some antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1).
