CHAPS has been shown to inhibit the activity of proteases such as chymotrypsin, trypsin, and elastase. It also inhibits the activity of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs by binding to the receptor molecule. CHAPS has been shown to bind to amyloid protein in vitro, which may help explain its ability to inhibit cell lysis in model systems.
