2-Cyano-3-nitropyridine is an aniline that inhibits protein kinases. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of protein kinases in vitro and in cellular assays. This agent also has potent anti-inflammatory properties, inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis by blocking the enzyme cyclooxygenase. 2-Cyano-3-nitropyridine is able to inhibit inflammation in vivo with a potency comparable to that of indomethacin. The mechanism of action for this drug is unknown, but may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of reactive oxygen species or nitric oxide.
