4-(2-Chlorophenoxy)piperidine hydrochloride is a potent inhibitor of fatty acid biosynthesis. It inhibits the enzyme stearoyl-coa desaturase, which is involved in the biosynthesis of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids. 4-(2-Chlorophenoxy)piperidine hydrochloride has been shown to be effective when given orally to animals, and this drug has also been shown to increase insulin sensitivity in cells from knockout mice. This drug has been used to study the effects of dietary fatty acids on insulin sensitivity and obesity in animals.
