4-Carbethoxy-2-ethyl-3-methyl-2-cyclohexen-1-one is an organic compound that is a colorless liquid with a pleasant odor. It is soluble in alcohol, ether and benzene. The compound has been found to have translational, asymmetric, chain, and intermolecular hydrogen bonding. Asymmetric hydrogen bonding occurs when one of the hydrogen atoms on the donor molecule is oriented towards one side of the acceptor molecule while the other hydrogen atom is oriented towards the opposite side of the acceptor molecule. This type of bonding can occur between two different molecules or between two parts of the same molecule. Hydrogen bonded chains are formed when two or more hydrogen bonded molecules are linked together by alternating single and double bonds. These chains can be either linear or cyclic in shape.
