Descripción:5-Chloro-1H-benzotriazole is an inhibitor of the enzyme p-hydroxybenzoic acid oxidase. It is used in wastewater treatment to remove organic pollutants, such as 3-o-caffeoylquinic acid. 5-Chloro-1H-benzotriazole can be prepared by reacting benzotriazole with sodium hydroxide and chlorinating with chlorine gas in aqueous solution. The reaction mechanism is a nucleophilic substitution at the para position of the aromatic ring by chlorine. This reaction has been shown to take place via two concurrent steps: one involving a free radical intermediate and another involving electron transfer from NADPH to the benzotriazole molecule. 5CHBZO has been shown to inhibit electron transfer between NADPH and benzotriazole, which may be due to its ability to bind both types of molecules.
