The compound is an organic solvent with growth factor activity. The ligand binds to the corresponding receptor and activates cell signaling pathways in a similar manner as growth factor β, which stimulates cellular proliferation and differentiation. This drug also has the ability to inhibit the production of proinflammatory cytokines in vitro. 2-Chloro-4-hydroxypyridine also has a tautomeric equilibrium, which can be exploited for its pharmacokinetic properties; it is rapidly converted from one tautomeric form to another in vivo, thereby achieving a rapid blood clearance time.
