(2-Chloro-ethoxymethyl)-phosphonic acid diethyl ester is a fungicide that has been shown to be effective against fungi, such as Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger. It also has anti-fungal activity against Coccidioides immitis and Cryptococcus neoformans. The mechanism of action of (2-Chloro-ethoxymethyl)-phosphonic acid diethyl ester is not fully understood, but it is thought to be due to inhibition of the enzyme gyrase in fungal cells. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of Streptococcus pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus with high affinity.
