Beta-cyclohexyl-L-alanine (BcLA) is a peptide with antimicrobial activity that belongs to the group of P2 cyclic peptides. It also has a role in autoimmune diseases and stable complexes with amides. The inhibition of mitochondrial membrane potential by BcLA is due to its binding to the nuclear dna and chemical stability. BcLA binds to the DNA of human pathogens, such as S. aureus, E. coli, and H1N1 influenza virus, inhibiting their growth by preventing transcription and replication. Beta-cyclohexyl-L-alanine also inhibits bacterial growth through its interaction with the protein FKBP12, which is involved in the binding of various antibiotics to their target proteins.
