3-Chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)2-pyridinecarboxylic acid ethyl ester is an organocatalyst that is prepared by the alkoxycarbonylation of methyl pivalate with monoxide in the presence of a palladium catalyst. It has been found to be selective for the chloropyridines and dicarbonylation of dialkyl compounds. This research has led to a process development that has high yields and selectivity.
