The chemical stability of 3-Cyclohexylpropionic acid makes it suitable for use as a disinfectant in detergent compositions. This compound reacts with trifluoroacetic acid to give the corresponding ester, which is then hydrolyzed by hydroxyl group to form the corresponding carboxylic acid. 3-Cyclohexylpropionic acid also reacts with cationic surfactants such as benzalkonium chloride to form the corresponding quaternary ammonium salt.
